Get to Know Grassland Birds

Saturday, October 4, 1 p.m.
Gallant Farm, All Ages
From a bird's-eye view, farming practices i the 1920s to 1950s favored grassland birds that nest on the ground. Harvest timing helps birds to nest and nestling to get their flight wings. These birds, such as the meadowlark, can help limit crop damaging insects. Over the last several decades, changes in farming methods coincide with drastic decreases in numbers of grassland birds. Join Delaware County Master Gardener volunteers for a discussion of these past times and farming, helpful native plants, and cover crops that support grassland birds' survival.
