2024 Summer Letterbox Adventure

Welcome to Summer Letterbox Adventure, which runs
Saturday, May 25 - Sunday, September 1.

Are you ready to win a fun prize pack and explore your local parks?
There are letterboxes hidden in 8 Preservation Parks; find at least 4
letterboxes at any park to win a prize, while supplies last.

What is a letterbox? Great question! A letterbox is another form of
geocaching and scavenger hunting using clues instead of coordinates.
Once you find the hidden letterbox, draw the symbol inside the box in
the blank circle on the appropriate park’s page in your booklet to show
you’ve found it. Sign the notebook to leave a message for the next
person who finds it.

You will receive a booklet filled with clues that will help you find the letterboxes hidden in the parks, and help you learn about plant and animal relationships. A map with all the parks is in the booklet, and detailed trail maps are available online.

Good luck and have a good time exploring the parks!

You can register and pick up a booklet one of three ways:
1. Stop in at any Delaware County Library branch, the Wornstaff Library in Ashley, or the Community Library in
Sunbury;
2. Visit the Deer Haven Park Visitor Center, open daily 12 - 5 p.m.; or
3. Register here through RecDesk.
HOWEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO IT, YOU ONLY NEED TO REGISTER ONCE!

If you register here on RecDesk please follow the directions below. If you have questions about the RecDesk process, please email Letterbox Questions or call 740-524-8600 x103.

1.) Create a free account by setting up everyone in your household who will be participating.
2.) Click on ‘Programs’ to register for the Summer Letterbox program. This is a free program!
3. You are encouraged to opt-in to text messages to receive updates on possible park closures and other program updates. (For example, with a heavy rain event, Blues Creek often closes for a day or two due to flooding.)
4. You will have access to the Letterbox booklet PDF during the registration process and after you are done registering by going into your RecDesk profile.
5. You can print a copy of the Letterbox PDF as individual pages (it prints easily double-sided if your printer allows you to save paper). It is not set up to print booklet style nor designed to be folded into a booklet. Lay pages flat on top of each other and staple in upper corner.

Take a pencil, marker, etc. with you on each letterbox hunt.

Visit each park during the summer and follow the clues to find the letterbox. Once you find the letterbox, there will be a symbol inside. Participants can trace, draw, or write what the symbol is in the designated space on each park page. Then, you can write a note to other letterboxers on the notepad inside the box.

After you’ve found 4 or more boxes, bring the booklet to the one of
the Delaware County libraries or Deer Haven Park to pick up your prize starting June 14 through Sept. 11, while supplies last.

Parent Tips: Read each set of park clues before heading out to the park so you can be prepared! Some parks have limited hours, may not be stroller-friendly, or allow dogs on trails.

Visit the Parks & Trails page for location and directions to each park.

Note:

If you register online through RecDesk, you will have access to the Letterbox PDF during and after the registration process.

If you have questions about this process, please email Letterbox Questions or call 740-524-8600 x103.
